100 Years of Political Theatre

By Caryl Churchill

Directed by Susan E. Evans

at the Eureka
215 Jackson Street, San Francisco

August 31-September 26, 2004

Eastenders Repertory Company presents Far Away
Part of Series C of 100 Years of Political Theatre.

In this play, called "the most astonishing new play of the year" by The Daily Mail, Churchill creates a nightmarish, surreal, and, ultimately, apocalyptic vision of the world. Written in the playwright's distinctive sparse, poetic rhythms, Far Away follows the life of Joan, from girlhood to young adult, as she nagivates her way in a world so torn apart by war that it begins to turn in upon itself. Ben Brantly (New York Times) writes of the dramatist: "I can think of no contemporary playwright who combines such scope of imagination and depth of purpose." Churchill's plays never cease to push the envelope of the dramatic form and are unerringly political in nature.
