Eastenders Repertory Company presents Edward Albee's Marriage Play Part of Series C of 100 Years of Sex-Acts.
Albee's Marriage Play is a dialogue between a middle-aged couple, "two people who are married, and who are trying not to be married, but find it very very difficult not to be married" (Albee's own description). As the play opens, a man returns home from work and tells his wife he is leaving; Albee's witty, biting rhythms drive the story through a scene of physical violence to a Beckett-like minimalist conclusion. Marriage Play is a kind of miniature Virginia Woolf - via Strindberg - by one of America's most influential, controversial and private playwrights. |
